Bricking it
Posted under New UsersReminds me of the program on BBC when we were back in the UK about a bunch of delinquent teenagers who left school without anything and were taught about health and safety and how to make a living in the construction industry. Being a manual labourer in the construction industry aka a Puah Chu Kang is a respectable and a high earning job if you are a skilled and certified person. Even the hubby was in the construction industry but I do seriously doubt his work skills.
Even in Malaysia, there are so many construction institutes even near Kulim. Mostly operated by the CIDB or the Construction Industry Development Board, it closely follow the NVQ Curriculum back in the UK as much as possible so their graduand can compete with high wages in the working world. Little that I knew that the hubby was more inclined as a Contractor than to do IT . Rather than having to crack his head every day trying to debug and star in front of the PC, he said he rather be outside sweating it and stamping it than just to push some stupid paper.
To work in the construction industry even in Singapore requires a license and to do that you must have at the very least a diploma in Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering specialties but it would be a great plus having more than a skill in one sector. Little I had known that the hubby holds a CIS Green Card in the UK for the past many years to work in the industry and even back in Malaysia , a CIDB Contractors License of a Class B which means he can take on jobs of up to $500,000 at a go. And his profit margin? I dare not ask, but saw his old audits, which works to about 25% profit margin NET. No wonder he would love to jump at doing any offshore work, building maintenance or Sewerage. Easily earning him $1000 a day is just a few hours work.
What a stinker and thus..this little haphazard DIY-er is always trying to do it on his own to save the pennies and sen just to cut the cost of the labour. Oh well, now then, anyone know of anyone who does gardening in Kulim?? I want his mess out of the back yard… I mean the cattle grazing ground of what has become of the porch!
PS Bricking it in the UK also can mean SKYVING ( eat snake / sleeping on the job like in TGIF) or doing one’s business in the Toilet.Either way, contractors are known to do both!
Read more about the picture taken from TGIF last night at his blog or just click the picture.
